I help women in the health and fitness business get more clarity, clients & cash.
HI, I'M ELLE
work with me
let's chat! tell me about your biz and book a free call
You’ve got a fabulous freebie, you’ve got a list of amazing emails that you’re ready to send to a stream of new subscribers…there’s only one catch.
You don’t have your tech in place to get those people on your list. You want to hide under the duvet. You look around and realise, there’s no-one else to do this for you, you’re the boss in your business, and although you’d rather be doing squats, smoothies or sit ups..it’s all down to you to figure out how on earth this sign up form thingamy-jiggy works.
Well luckily for you, I’m a tech geek who loves to help you out with this kind of thing. In fact, all my students get simple videos on ‘how to’ for each part of setting up their online marketing system. Yes…I said system…
You see, it’s one thing to have an email list, but it’s only a small part of building your business and getting more clients.
(I teach my students a 3 step system to starting and launching a profitable online health, fitness or wellness program, and I’ve even used this system in my own OFFLINE business to get more training clients – although it was originally designed for coaching clients, I realised that it worked a treat in any kind of health, fitness or wellness environment. Just throwing it out there…)
Today’s task is to set up ONE landing page inside Leadpages for your freebie, and if you’re feeling brave, you can also have a go at putting your freebie on your website using an optin FORM. (I talk about the difference in this post.)
Let’s swap out that old “Sign Up For My Newsletter” for something with a bit more fizz and pop!
The way people get on your list is to sign up for it using a sign-up form. This is how they get on the list.
A sign-up form is code you will get from your email list management software, like Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Aweber (or other) that you paste into a page, or integrate with landing page software such as Leadpages.net, Converzly.com, or Instapage.com so that your audience member can subscribe to your list. If you have Squarespace, then sign up forms are called Newsletter Blocks and already integrate with Mailchimp.
If you’ve been following this series, right at the start I recommended Leadpages for creating sign up forms and pages. Others include Instapage, Unbounce or even using a cover page in Squarespace.
Recently Mailchimp rolled out landing page capability but I don’t love it and from what I’ve seen, lots of my clients are losing TONS of leads because the page doesn’t really convert well, so try out Leadpages if you can.
If you’re setting up your online program inside something like Kajabi or Clickfunnels, they also do great landing pages, you don’t want to pay for more software than you need…I just recommend Leadpages because I’ve always gotten the best conversion results with them and it’s really easy to use.
(Disclosure, I am an affiliate of Leadpages, but I would never recommend something that I don’t use myself or think is the bomb.)
Inside Leadpages, you can create forms, boxes, pop ups and pages all of which you can use to get people on your list.
If you want to get more subscribers for your list set up multiple opportunities for them to sign up. Here’s some ideas:
Remember that pages and forms look different on mobile than on a PC. Plus, remember that most people are looking at your stuff via mobile these days, so make sure your forms look good and work for mobile as well as they do on a PC.
An opt-in form is usually a small part of an opt in page (which is another name for a landing page, it’s the same thing). An opt in form can stand on its own, or be located on an opt in page. If you really want to be successful building your list you need to have both opt in forms, and opt in pages.
An opt-in form is an online form that allows your audience to enter their information to receive the emailed information you’ve promised. An example is the form on my home page.
An opt in page is a landing page that has more information on it, plus an opt-in form that enables audience members to sign up in the same way but with more information given first before they sign up. Here’s an example: http://bit.ly/HBLWAIT
Opt-in Form: This is a popup, slide, side bar, under blog post form – if you think of it as an opt-in box that can be configured to show up on different areas of your website pages dependent on settings it helps understand it better. Usually, you’ll use your email marketing autoresponder software to create this form unless you have integrated your landing page software with your autoresponder software.
Opt-in Page: This is a landing page that has an opt-in form located within it. They used for lead generation. It’s a destination page designed to elicit a specific response from the visitor which is to grab that email. There’s no other links, or menu or distraction on that page, the ONLY action they can take is to press the button and sign up.
You can use software to create opt-in pages such as leadpages.net, instapage.com, or Clickfunnels.com or you can use your website for it with the opt-in form added.
|Opt-in Form||Opt-in Page|
|Above the fold on your website||Your main page of your site|
|Pop up to gather webinar sign ups||To promote your webinar|
|Slide to promote a free checklist related to the content on page||To promote free checklist|
|Overlay to inform visitors of your email list or newsletter.||To promote your weekly newsletter|
|Pop up to grab attention as visitor leaves site||To promote each product you sell/refer|
|Below blog post to offer reminders of more content like this||To promote your free content to the world|
|Slide to encourage sign ups to read more wonderful content||To promote your exclusive content to the world|
Wow – that was a whole heap of techness right there!
Let’s keep this simple. Create an optin PAGE, or a landing page for your freebie. Use Leadpages or another software and then integrate your page with your email provider so that when people sign up, they are automatically added to your list. Now all you need to do is share the link to that Landing Page all over the place! If you’re feeling awesome, which you are, add your freebie to your website and side bar using a form.
opt in form goes here... just paste it into the code box below!
