While I’ve always worked in dance, I became a nutrition, health and fitness coach after my kids were born.
I had postnatal depression, I wasn’t coping at work and I suffered from an autoimmune disease that was flaring up around this time. It wasn’t pretty.
Something had to change, so I started working with a trainer and health coach. Seeing how good food and exercise helped me, I wanted to share that with other women too, so that’s when I started studying and got my personal training and nutrition coach qualifications.
At first, I worked 1:1 with clients, finding them through moms groups, my network and word of mouth. Within 1 month I was working as much as I wanted, but it didn’t take long for me to realize that trading time to coach people on an individual basis immediately placed a limit on how much I could grow my business.
But, on the flip side, this 1:1 private coaching time was VITAL because I realised I was saying the same things to similar people over and over again which helped me figure out what kind of online program would help them the most.
That’s when I decided to take everything my clients wanted to know and all those questions and turn it into an online program.

And as all successful online coaches will agree, you need to have a marketing strategy in order to attract new clients to your course or program.
(Luckily, I LOVE online marketing…probably more than push-ups and plie’s, which I like a lot and I set to work learning everything there is to know about launching an online program.)
I launched my course with no email list, a small social media following. I didn’t have a 6 figure launch my first time around.
I made about $6000 – at the time I thought this was TERRIBLE, because I believed the hype about 6 figure launches but now I know this was an incredible result for a newbie.
The best part is that I had a committed group of women who got results, and inspired me to tweak and improve my program. By launching something, I got clarity.
The next time around, I learnt how to effortlessly enrol women into my group without feeling sleazy and I created a specific system to attract the right people to my program.
Within 3 months I had a 5 figure business and within a year that had grown to 6 figures, all while working no more than 20 hours a week. I was reaching hundreds of women instead of a handful and I was able to make a difference that counted.
(I still taught classes 2 days a week and had online clients for the rest of the time, kinda liked it that way and you may still find me leading barre class from time to time!)
It wasn’t all plain sailing. I struggled with things like “How to create a course I feel confident will work for my clients,”, “How to find the time to make this work”, and “how to find clients when no-one’s ever heard of me.”
But, once I took action, put my marketing system into place and committed to moving forward, then I got the clarity I needed.
You may have doubts, fears or beliefs that hold you back, but if you’re passionate about what you do, and you really want to make a difference, I encourage you to push past the, dig deep and take action.
